Exploring Hydrodynamic Closures for the Lid-driven Micro-cavity
A minimal kinetic model is used to study analytically and numerically flows at a mi-crometer scale. Using the lid-driven microcavity as an illustrative example, the interplay between kinetics and hydrodynamics is quantitatively visualized. The validity of various theories of non-equilibrium thermodynamics of flowing systems is tested in this nontrivial microflow.
متن کاملGravitational Capture of Asteroids by Gas Drag
Several irregular satellites of the giant planets were found in the last years. Their orbital configuration suggests that these satellites were asteroids captured by the planets. The restricted three-body problem can explain the dynamics of the capture, but the capture is temporary. It is necessary some kind of dissipative effect to turn the temporary capture into a permanent one. In this work ...
متن کاملDrag Reduction by Surfactant Solutions in Gravity Driven Flow Systems
Efflux time measurements are carried out for gravity draining of a liquid from a large cylindrical tank (where the flow is essentially laminar) through single exit pipe in the absence and presence of Cetyl Pyridinium Chloride (CPC) surfactant solutions. The variables considered are initial height of liquid in the tank, dia. of tank, length of the exit pipe and concentration of surfactant. T...
متن کاملUsing Burnett Equations to Derive an Analytical Solution to Pressure-Driven Gas Flow and Heat Transfer in Micro-Couette Flow
The aim of the present study is deriving an analytical solution to incompressible thermal flow in a micro-Couette geometry in the presence of a pressure gradient using Burnett equations with first- and second-order slip boundary conditions. The lower plate of the micro-Couette structure is stationary, whereas the upper plate moves at a constant velocity. Non-dimensional axial velocity and tempe...
متن کاملDiagnostics for Respondent-driven Sampling.
Respondent-driven sampling (RDS) is a widely used method for sampling from hard-to-reach human populations, especially populations at higher risk for HIV. Data are collected through peer-referral over social networks. RDS has proven practical for data collection in many difficult settings and is widely used. Inference from RDS data requires many strong assumptions because the sampling design is...
